Protecting Your Teeth From Halloween Candy

The average American will consume over 3.5 lbs of Halloween candy every year. That’s JUST Halloween Candy!! The Average American will consume over 24 pounds of candy annually. Now that’s a lot of candy!

With all the bags candy that have already been purchased and ready to hit the streets, its only a matter of hours before all this candy will come and go through our front doors.

Halloween is a very fun and festive time of year. It’s the time of year that will bring out the kid in all of us. But we should also do our best to protect our Pearly Whites.

Here are a few top tips to protect your teeth and the teeth of your family members.

1. STAY AWAY FROM STICKY TREATS:

The longer a sugary snack stays in your mouth plays a a big factor in tooth decay. So the sticky candies, (examples: like taffy and gummy bears)take a lot longer to get washed away by our saliva.

2. CHEW SOME GUM:

Take the alternative option, chew some gum (Sugerless that is). There have been plenty of studies that will show chewing sugar free gum for 20 minutes after having a meals will help in reduction of tooth decay. The reason of this is because when we chew gum we are increasing saliva in our mouth which will help with the washing out food and will also neutralize the acid that is naturally produced by bacteria.

3. WATCH WHAT YOU DRINK:

Stay away from Sugary drinks. When our teeth come in contact with drinks that contain high levels of sugar we are increasing the potential of creating tooth decay. So our recommendation is to DRINK A LOT OF WATER. Its will help prevent tooth decay because it will help with washing away anything sitting on the surface. And will help keep the mouth and body hydrated to prevent dry mouth.
